THE BOLD AND MODEST©
BY Umm E Ruqqia
Far from being exclusively Muslim, the modest method of dressing up for women, regardless of religion and cultural background, is soon becoming more integrative. Globally, modest influencers in style use their social media platforms to elevate voices for broader outfits and the fashion industry is noticing them. The modest dressing concept is continually being reflected in the expanding influence of the modest community from the fashion week runways that goes on for longer and fitted collections to the Hijabi supermodels with leading commercial shoots.
Aden, the first hijabi to be a cover girl from Allure Magazine and the first hijabis to be used for major Fashion week shows; Omar, a Swedish-born model from Bristol, among the first hijabis to play in renowned fashion shows such like LFW, where she made her debut in Molly Goddards AW18 show; and Adan, Denmark's AW18 show. Aden, Ikram Abdi Omar & Amina Adan are legends in themselves.

MODEST FASHION MARKET
Modest and fashion are contradictory concepts from recent years that have received global implications. It means basically, to use loose and less-skin clothes that fit your spiritual and stylistic demands and satisfy your personal preferences and the standards of faith and religion. Although modest, it's a decade-old craze that has taken its impetus since the last couple years on the streets in the media, online or on the catwalk.
It is estimated today that the world's modest fashion market is around $283 billion. Muslim communities rose 4.2 percent in 2019 in modest fashion markets and expenditure on clothing and footwear. Because of the COVID-19 it has fallen by the year 2020, but by the year 2024 it is predicted to reach $311 billion.
MODESTY AND RELIGION
In the Holy Book of Qur'an Islam has some explicit instructions about the attire of men and women. It says, "O Adam's children! For beauty and clothing that keeps you (from evil), we have brought you clothes to conceal your shame and this is the nicest thing. This is Allah's message that they can be conscious of." (7:26). It shows clearly that clothes may be used for both beauty and covers. In this respect, modesty efficiently plays its part. However, the concept of modestia is evolving and is adopted in various ways, rejected, adjusted or imposed on certain groups of women (and, to a lesser extent, men) and regions.
To sum it all up, the feasibility study on generating modest fashion items will start a business roadmap for modest fashion companies by establishing a team that will investigate unique product demands with the aim of looking for design and e-commerce business partners. One must therefore be prepared to ethically and sustainably meet changing customer demands. The Islamic world may play a constructive role again by integrating Coranic trash rules with current business methods that are more environmentally friendly. The industry will continue to influence society to the better as its transformative powers grow.
